Eh! I spent all my human life living outside with the land, and then some more in my vampire life. You can't miss what you are not used to. And besides all of that, I got my nose back when we came back here and there is a lot to smell, all of the time. Too much, sometimes. It's quiet out here, even if it's cold.

Stefan I am very offended. This is the second thing I was complaining about the most the entire time I was in that spooky white man's village.

I don't listen to every complaint, Goodstab. I also had people I was trying to protect. I was in the same game.

Oh, to everyone who would listen to me complain about it. It was like being underwater, or a quiet room for too long. Being without it, I mean. I can smell almost everything, and then I could only smell what a human would smell.

Some vampires can read thoughts, yes? My nose is like that. I smell history. Intent. Things that exist in the spirit and the blood.

It was the last round, I didn't pay close attention. I had my eye on my friends.

I will forgive you. All we could do was look to our people and try to keep them safe. Anyway, I voted, and then I died very fast. I do not recommend the dying. It was very annoying this time.

Am I missing important vampire council meetings by staying in the woods? I would hope someone would tell me about the important meetings. :-(

There are no important meetings. People are sticking to themselves.

Do you all feel the cold? I don't feel it the way I used to, when I was human. This is good, because out here is where I feel most at home.

You all come from a place like this, maybe. Your ancestors. Like this, sometimes smaller. Inside is where you feel most at home, yes? It is what you know.

No, not like we would if we were human.

I've never really given it much thought. I suppose I do have a better connection to being inside.

Houses.

I grew up in lodges, but not like lodges you know. Tents. Then, when I became this, I slept outside, with the animals sometimes, but mostly by myself. Houses came after this, with the towns, and the cities, and then the states.

But you do not feel the cold. One thing we share. The rest I have been piecing together, but mostly the differences. All this to say: you should all come outside, sometimes. The land is where we came from, and it is where our bones will become dust. You should get to know it before that happens.

If we do everything right, our bones shouldn't become dust any time soon.
